1. How did the band form? Was it always just you or do you play with other musicians often? “Pezzettino” is the name of the project, no matter if it’s solo or with support.  It’s sort of like how St. Vincent is Annie Clark or Dirty Projectors is led by Dave Longstreth.  I’ve been fortunate to have band support along the way by a rotating cast of talented musician friends, although I do play a lot of gigs solo in newer areas.  Gigs are starting to pay more, which means I’ve been tooling around with pals more.  Right now it’s at that in between stage where I’m almost touring too much for guys with day jobs and not touring enough to be able to pay support them fully.  Who knows, it’ll work itself out.
2. How long have you been playing together and by yourself?
I started performing as Pezzettino in 2008, touring solo and with a band in Milwaukee / Chicago.
3. Being an indie singer/song writer; What’s it like to play and manage your music & tours simultaneously?
It’s a shit ton of work!!!
4. Any EP’s or Albums released? Where?
Independently released 4 babies into the world, past two have been on vinyl!!  http://pezzettino.bandcamp.com/
5. Where do you normally play? Usual spots or do you like to travel?
The stomping ground is East Coast (New York base) and Midwest (Milwaukee base).  I LOVE LOVE LOVE to travel and would tour forever on end, but right now I’m trying to sit somewhat still to finish work on my biggest recording yet with a producer in New York.
6. Any past favorite tours? Do you have any upcoming tours?
Any tour is a good tour for me :0) Maybe the favorite is the very first, back when I had no idea what might be good routing– I toured from Minneapolis up through North Woods Wisconsin — there are hardly any venues up there!!!  But it was my first get away, I think most of all I just needed some breathing room and fresh air.  More recently, a favorite memory is driving across Nebraska from Iowa to Colorado.  This country is so gorgeous, and Nebraska’s monotonous highway is great for songwriting. Will be circling through Midwest briefly this summer for Daytrotter, Summerfest (6/30) and Double Door (6/29).  I need to really focus on recording and not being gone too much, but I can’t sit still, love playing, meeting new people and seeing new things… Fall will be on road longer…
7. How do you write your songs? What inspires you?
Step 1) Go crazy.  2) Work to point of exhaustion, censor gives up or 3) be so relaxed and well rested that thoughts can finally bubble up.
8. Any major musical inspirations?
Blondie, Bach, Andrew Bird, Abassi Brothers, Karen O, Sufjan, a million trillion others!  Sponge head.  The worst is not being able to really identify what your influences are…
9. What song is best received by your audience?
“You Never Know”  — I have mixed feelings about that
10. What was your best /worst show?
Best show was right after I moved to New York and was super anxious / thrilled / scared shitless, and we performed at an outdoor music festival, it was pouring rain and I smashed a backup accordion.  The worst show ever was solo at a Thai restaurant.  I was hungry…
11. Future plans?
SOOOO MANY I want to do everything.
